Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This was just outside of Lake City in Yellowstone NP. This young bull elk, scruffy with shedding coat, still with velvet antlers, apparently had an itch and was really good at his balancing act. I love humorous images of wildlife.

Specific Feedback

Does this make you laugh? Does it tell a story? Is the BG too distracting? Thanks for your thoughts and comments.

Technical Details

Canon R5, f8, 1/640s, iso 800, 100-500 +1.4TC at 420 mm. Cropped for composition.

Funny! He looks also as if he is shaking off water from a river crossing.
Nice detail on the elk. The greens seem a little bright, and you might consider cloning out that one bright branch above the elk. It’s a little distracting.
Great catch!

Thank you @SandyR-B. Good suggestions. I will work on it when I get back from my annual insect excursion to Arizona with my son.
