Description
I went looking for Fairy Slippers (one common name for the Calypso Orchid), yesterday, and was rewarded by this nice cluster. In this case, I wanted to show the cluster in it’s forest floor environment. I had hoped for some raindrops on the orchids, but they were only on the grass tips. This is a 27 shot stack to get the front flowers in the cluster sharp while getting decent separation from the background.
Technical Details
R5, 180 mm macro, 1/1000 s, iso 400. F/5 chosen to soften the background. A 27 shot stack
I love the odd one out! All facing right except one. Shows their structures really well. I wish the one in the far back wasn’t there, but other than picking it (bad) or bending it out of the way (potentially bad) I don’t know how you’d eliminate it. The bits of grass sticking up add a nice element and keep it from being so static. These look like gorgeous little things and I’ve never seen them before so thanks for sharing.
This one is worth the effort taken and its nice to see a healthy clump of this orchid species. Stacking is fine and the odd one provides a different view of this very unusual flower It would also be neat to revisit this one on a day when the lighting was bright, but diffuse. Awesome shot…Jim
