This is a picture I made awhile back in the pine forest close by my home here in Wisconsin. It is a very early morning shot with some heavy fog and the air was as still as it could be. I got away with an 8 second exposure on that quiet morning.

Nice to see some more views of Wisconsin. I love a foggy woodland and if you’re near the Wisconsin the fog it creates can bleed into the forest.
The strong verticals work well here and the vine (looks like poison ivy, but I’ve not seen it climb like this) is a nice contrast, breaking up and softening the forms. The deep shade is really nice, but I wonder at the uniformity of the greens. Did you use a polarizer for this?
The luminosity of the leaves of the vine are really great. In fact I suspect a vertical of the left would have made a great image on it’s own. The composition with the main subject all the way left works for me. It’s a cool peaceful scene. The lichens on the right tree work as a secondary point of interest. Not much to suggest. There’s a bright leaf in lower dead center that I might burn in. It’s bright because its underside is showing.
Kristen, Igor and David, Thanks to all of you for your comments.
Kristen, This pine forest is only about 1/2 mile from the Wisconsin so I do see lots of fog here and I love fog in the woods. I actually don’t remember if I used a polarizer on this but a good chance I did.
Another great image Nick. I love the mysterious mood you achieved here, which I think comes from the dark processing of the forest contrasting against the lighter foggy background. But the poison ivy on the tree is really the icing on the cake. The repetition of that same shade of green in the ivy and the ground cover adds a lot to my enjoyment of this image. Excellent work on this one, I’m enjoying it as presented.
Hi Ed, Thank you! This pine forest is not the easiest place to get a good picture but when we get the fog that all changes. Nice thing is we get quite a bit of fog here in the Wisconsin River Valley. So glad you enjoyed the picture. Nick
