I’ve been a fan of the Nikon Z camera “focus shifting” feature + Nikon 105mm macro lens combination for many years.
But lately I’ve been wanting to expand to magnifications greater than 1:1. I tried pairing the 105 mm mcaro lens with assorted extension tubes, and found significant distortion in the corners whenever an extension tube was attached. So I decided to switch technologies, and pair a manual Laowa 90 mm 2X macro lens with a WeMicro motorized rail.
So far I’ve been very happy with the switch. [See the attached “From_Nikon_To_Laowa_WeMacro.jpg” file.]
It should be noted that I tried focus stacking with the “Nikon 105 mm + extention tube combo” using both the Nikon camera body’s internal focus shifting feature, as well as the motorized macro rail. Both resulted in significant increase in distortion along the edges and corners of the frame.
I’m curious to know if anybody else has experienced this same problem - whether with the Nikon lens or the equivalent Canon/Sony lenses.
