Frosty Moon

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I stepped outside an hour ago and saw this moon and had to grab the camera! It’s getting cold tonight (well, by our west coast standards) and there is a veil of thin high clouds that will be ice crystals for sure. The moon looked like it was already covered in frost. (Nature’s negative clarity.) And the upper air must be still because the craters are unusually sharp.

Technical Details

10-sec shutter delay used due to the 1/30 sec ss. Slight crop in LR and into PS for denosie – hardly needed. After posting I see some posterization from the JPEG conversion.

Diane,

That is a very crisp photo of the moon. Those craters really do stand out. So this was essentially at 1000mm?

Thanks, @Youssef_Ismail! I did a slight crop for framing. This is 64% of the full frame. And it came out a good representation of what it actually looked like.

And an aside – I just opened the JPEG I posted and it doesn’t show posterization, so some sort of compression is going on up the chain – understandably.

Here’s the frame just before, uncropped and no adjustments.
