I was able to move around and compose the bird into the background and wait for eye contact. Enabled by handheld camera. All words welcome.

Fine pose and composition with the perch, Steven. I really like the eye contact. I am seeing some background noise in the largest version, which should be a simple fix. I would also bump up the saturation a bit to improve the pop. If you have the pixels, you can recompose the image with the quail on the right side of the frame for an even better composition.

Steve, a truly wonderful LARGE version of this quail. The plumage detail and the small catch light in the eye is exceptional IMO…
Only thought for change is totally subjective for bringing down the highlights slightly. But again, personal preference on that point…
