Getting into the New Suit

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Jenny, the pups, and I headed up to Wilderness State Park in the Northern tip of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan for a week of fun. I took a load of camera gear and scrounged up a few shots. I found a milkweed bug finishing up its final molt to adulthood on some common milkweed. This is a single handheld shot and am amazed at the color and details present in the image.

Specific Feedback

I reduced the saturation of the reds to keep the details present. Do you think that the reds are still too saturated?

Jim, this is really a nice find. Perfect timing of this guy. He certainly was bright enough in color to spot him. Excellent detail from a HH shot. Looks good to me as presented.

Gorgeous color in this critter, Jim. Your depth of field worked beautifully with everything on the near side in crisp focus. Nice composition as well.

Wonderful – an excellent find!! I have no idea what this critter should look like but this is gorgeous! The color doesn’t feel too saturated or too flat, with good detail. My first move with red/yellows is to tweak the Temp slider until I get the most detail, and then look at the Color Mixer. With a good balance (and good exposure) there is usually not much needed for tweaking saturation.

Wow Jim, excellent detail for handheld single shot. I love the wrinkles in the wings. The color is great, tough to keep the red/oranges in check. Cool shot.

Jim, the details, the colors and the composition are great. Nice job of hand holding!
