Hi Deborah,

First of all, welcome to NPN! Great to have you here and glad you’ve decided to jump right in here in the Processing Challenge gallery!

When were you in the valley? I was there 11/5-7. It was a glorious autumn in Yosemite this year! Glad you were able to make it there.

Wonderful image that I think captures a number of story lines. Of course fall color in the forest is the main subject, but also as you mention, the fresh after math of the recent controlled burns inthe valley leaving blackened trunks with suit/ashes on the forest floor. These controlled burns were active while I was there. I think I see some evidence of smoke in the background as well.

Thanks for posting. I may take a shot at the processing - although to be honest this looks great as you’ve presented. But FYI, the RAW file you attached to this post is actually the RAW for your other “Amber Glen” post. And speaking of that, and yes, you are new and so probably not aware of the guidelines yet, but we ask that in this Challenge gallery, that we limit to 1 post per week. In all other galleries, it’s 1 image post per day per category.

No big deal as we are NOT heavily in to policing these guidelines, but mentioning for future reference.

Now, not sure what to do if you want to re-upload the RAW file for this scene. Let us know what you want to do. We can edit the post and possible re-upload the correct file. I’ll take a look after I post this.

I’ll check back.

Welcome aboard!

Hi Lon, I will upload the raw for “glow” and the jpeg for “Amber Glen” and post whenever.

I was in Yosemite October 23-25th. Luckily I only live 5 hours away in Buellton, CA so a relatively easy drive. The colors were spectacular.

Hi Deb, I fixed the link to your raw file in this topic and will delete the other one now to avoid any confusion!

Thank you so much. Deb

Hi Deborah, beautiful picture and lovely forest scene!

I wanted to try bit of a fairy tale/dreamy look and focus the lit tree and the light.

Thus, I ended up on much smaller crop, I also removed some of the distract foreground pieces that were too well lit. Overall burnt the areas I did not want to be lit. And finally applied kinda heavy Orton effect (~50% opacity for the layer) to give it a good dream like feeling.

Wow, I love what you did. It makes the large yellow tree really stand out and I love the dreamy look. The crop definitely helps you focus more on the subject. Thank you so much for sharing this. Deb
