Gold among the blue

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I liked the look of the 2 yellow dandelions amongst the blue violets. Sort of a weeds among the beauty’s concepts.

Specific Feedback

Does this image have appeal or is it too common of a scene? I liked the contrast between the 2 colors. I looked for a scene where there were more blue f lowers in front, but this is the best I could find.

Technical Details

Canon R7, RF 100-400mm F-9 ISO 1600. 1/1250. HH from a car.

It was extremely windy which is why I used a high shutter speed.

This is a striking image, John. The purples and yellows are such a wonderful contrast.

Good detail on the yellows and I like how the right flower is leaning toward the other.

There might be another version of this image with the light, spent flower cloned out or tamed?

Thank you for your kind comment. I will try your suggestion.

John

This works for me, John. The dandelion might be a common flower, but it has real beauty and set against the purple of the violets it really works. I probably would have plucked the dandelion leaf on the right (if I’d noticed it, which is questionable). A very nice composition.

John: Good subjects and I like your DOF choice especially. Examining a scene like this in the field can be difficult but I would definitely have made the leaf and the spent bloom go away. We tend to get so focused on the main subject that our minds tune out other distracting things in the frame. Still, this was well seen and nicely captured. >=))>

Hm. I’m of two minds with this. First, I really like the color contrast here - it’s bright and energetic and engaging. Then it’s dandelions. And violets. In the grass. The light isn’t anything that special and that big leaf on the right bugs me. Not easy to overcome, I know, but maybe if there was some early morning sunlight (or late afternoon) it could elevate this.

This is a fabulous study in complementary colors. I agree with Kristin about the leaf. Given the invasive nature of Dandelions, I wouldn’t have been afraid to pull that leaf! I asked an artist one time to present to our camera club. She talked a lot about the use of complementary colors. I really like how you saw this. I also think the shallow depth of field is perfect here. You’ve got the Dandelions in perfect depth and the rest is delightfully soft.

Thank you all for your kind comments and helpful suggestions.

Really love the colors and the naturally bright scene. It might not win a photo contest but dang I like it and wouldn’t worry about a leaf or an old bloom. Good eye.
