Golden Hills

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The yellows and golds of the fall grasses are always inviting. After a wet summer, the fall grass is as lush as I’ve ever seen it. This is a view across the Story Ranch in Montana showing low grassy areas and the start of the foothills leading up to the Galletin Mountains. Technically, Platinum Blond is a better color description for much of the local grasslands, but that doesn’t have the same “ring” as golden.

Specific Feedback

This is an attempt to capture both the fall colors and the textures of the local foothills. Including the higher mountains added additional colors, so they were left out to fit this week’s challenge definition.

Technical Details

R5, 100-500 @ 121, 1/250 s, f/16, polarizer and tripod

Hey Mark,
For me, this is all about the lines and folds of shapes interacting with one another. So well served with the monochromatic golds that, as you say, are warm and inviting. The small dark rocks/bushes invite the eye to stop and look, the lines invite the eye to move to the next. I noticed as I was writing this comment, that a crop up from the bottom to where the first mound curves in from the LR gives that experience more power for me.
I do love the golden grasses of fall too…
