Questions to guide your feedback

Photographing Grizzlies eating grass was certainly more exciting than being out in a pasture with cows.

Image Description

I just spent a week photographing Grizzlies from a zodiac in British Columbia’s Khutzymateen Grizzly Sanctuary in the Great Bear Rainforest. At this time of year, an adult Grizzly here will consume an astonishing 60 to 80 pounds of grass per day. They seem to alternate feeding on grass with searching out clams on the tidal flats at low tide. Later in the season, their diet turns to salmon, berries, and other products of the forest.

Technical Details

Sony a1, Sony 200-600mm @ 600mm, f/6.3 @ 1/1000th, manual exposure, ISO 2500. I did minimal processing of this image.

You’ve got a good perspective here, Charles. While it’s well known that bears are omnivores, seeing one with a mouthfull of grass is an uncommon view. Having it surrounded by grass adds well to the view and helps emphasize it’s meal.
