Description
Taken from a pontoon boat as we moved through a dark tunnel of bald cypress and Spanish moss down a narrow channel off Caddo Lake, Texas. The white egret really stood out against the subtle greens and grays of the landscape, and thankfully sat still while we approached long enough to get this shot.
Specific Feedback
Are the two rusty patches below the egret distracting? How about the crop? I wound up with kind of an L-shape of near-distance elements with the rest further away, not on purpose.

Just a perfect bird photo with lots of good environment. Not sure about the two bright spots. I do like their warm color and the sense of depth they give, but…
Hi Debbie. It’s a lovely scene and the two rusty blobs under the Egret don’t bother me a bit. However there are two bright patches where the bark got scraped off that are rather distracting. I’ve attached a marked up image showing them. I also think a tighter crop to move the egret more off-center would help and I’ve provided a notional crop that you can take for what it’s worth.
Cropping from the bottom would also work well and would emphasize the depth of the setting more.

Gorgeous! I like @Dennis_Plank’s suggestions. I would be tempted to try to de-emphasize the brown patches with a brushed-on quick mask in PS and use the selection to desaturate red slightly. Might give a subtle correction.

Great scene! Well seen and taken. Perfect setting and nice that the bird placed itself where it did. I like Dennis’ suggestions too. Image quality looks like it can hold up to the crop. Well done.

Very pleasant image and I like the contrast between the white polished egret and the rugged environment… I fully agree with removing the two bright spots, while I find the reddish vegetation below the egret not especially disturbing… And yes, maybe a little crop from below would improve the overall balance of masses… In any case, very nice picture!

I like this image a lot. I don’t disagree with the previous suggestions but I think it is just fine as is too. Well done. This brings back fine memories of canoeing on Caddo.

@Dennis_Plank @Allen_Sparks @Dave_Douglass @Antonello_Provenzale @Diane_Miller thank you for the comments, I’ve posted a revision with a crop/red desaturation and light areas fixed. I like this better.
Excellent work on the repost, Debbie.
