Hi Christine, I like the head turn of the osprey and the sharpness on the bird looks good at this file size. I like both versions with a slight lean to the color version probably as a general preference of mine. The framing of the branches gives a nice sense of the surroundings of this osprey.
Were you shooting a 800 with a 2x (i.e. 1600mm effective focal length) or a 400 with a 2x?

Thx @Allen_Sparks I kind of prefer the color too. 1600mm (800mm + 2.0 TC).

Hi Christine. Given the contrast you have in this image, I’d lean toward the B&W for an as-posted image. To me, this image is a bit left-heavy and the horizontal branch along the bottom right doesn’t really add a lot of context since it’s difficult to tell how it relates to a tree. I took the liberty of downloading the color version, recropping it and dodging some of the darker areas in the bird, particularly the face and the lower parts of the body which were rather dark.

A very nice opportunity! I think @Dennis_Plank has an excellent take on it, and I could see even more off the right to give a vertical 8x10. I would leave the bottom as it was, just cropping from the right, as I find the nest an interesting feature.
