Hummer on coral honeysuckle

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Juvenile ruby-throated hummingbirds have been showing in my area for about a month and now migration is also beginning. The numbers in our yard have really picked up. I tried the set up last night again with the honeysuckle. Love the coral honeysuckle as it being a native is also a host plant for hummingbird moth caterpillars. And of course the hummingbirds love it too.

I temporarily replace the feeder with a honeysuckle bloom using a plamp. Attracted by sugar water.

Hi Allen
Your set up is great, the honeysuckle really works and the flash freezes the in-flight Hummingbird, showing it’s find feather detail.

Nice job on the flash setup, Allen. Your background has a very real look to it which I also like. You caught a very nice flight position and pose on this beauty. A fine image.

Hi Allen–they are both excellent, but the pose in the second image puts it over the top. The lighting is fairly even with some shadowing evident. Hummingbird numbers have increased in my area too with about 8 visiting the feeders…Jim

Gorgeous shots!! Your setup is perfect and the Honeysuckle is as pretty as the little Hummingbird! I agree the second one is really special!
