Hunting blind (+revised)

Revised Version

Revision 1 (latest)

What changed: @David_Haynes @John_Williams thank you very much for your kind comments and suggestions, I have modified the image accordingly. I have also dehazed a little the most distant group of trees in the center. In fact fall is the best time there.

About This Image

This is Nietlickie Bagno (Nietlickie Swamp). Once a vast lake, now only marshy meadows, small forests, and remnants of an overgrown lake remain. In the 19th century, destructive land improvement works were carried out, and in 2003, two weirs were built to preserve the wetland character of the area. Not interesting for a photographer unless you’re a bird or moose and deer lover. Thousands of cranes gather here before flying off. Apart from that it’s just flat with two viewpoints of which only one can deliver a photographic view. Each year I go there several times in different seasons. All my photos are taken from more or less the same place and in the same direction, all of them show that hunters blind, flat land with a few groups of trees and the distant hill. What varies is the crop (more pano or less pano, more of the flat land or less ) and colors depending on the season. But I like it.

Thanks for the back story on the land here, Jacek. I can imagine this as a lake long ago where waterfowl came to possibly breed or over-winter. lI love that you’ve included the hunters hide as it’s all part of telling the story. I like the sky and the conversion to B&W. I think it works beautifully.
Since you seem to come here during all of the seasons, this could make for a great seasonal set of images in a project.
The one thing that stands out to my eye is that I wish there were bottom to the image. It feels very cut off. I took this into LR to try and reduce that feeling by burning down the bright grasses along the bottom. If you have more canvas down there I’d love to see you incorporate it into the scene. Here is my rework. I added a bit of overall whites to this as well.

I agree with @David_Haynes comments, and think his version is a great suggestion. I, too, think the foreground trips the eye a little as it moves into the scene. I also agree that the hunter stand adds a lot to the image. Do those trees have nice color in fall? If so, I bet that’s lovely.

The changes in Revision 1 are terrific. I love the added canvas at the bottom and the burning you applied to it. Nicely done!
