We rarely get these out here, Peter, but the grayish head seems to make it a Red-shouldered Hawk.
I really like the pose you caught and you got nice detail in the bird.

Nice pose and detail, Peter, and I like the fanned tail. Would agree with Dennis on ID, the tail looks like the ones on Red-shouldered Hawks I see on the west coast.
Thank you, Dennis & Allen, for the help with the Id & comments.
I went on the Feb. Spruce Photo Tours, headed by Barry Spruce, to Florida to photograph Owl, and other Birds. I am now trying to put together a post photo review of the “2,000” photographs I shot. I am also recovering for bronchial infection I picked up on the flight down to Fl. Air travel may not be a great way to stay healthy.

And it’s so stress-free and relaxing.
Whatever it is, it’s a gorgeous capture and a unique pose showing off that tail! I could see removing the lone branch on the left abd the one that is in the far LR corner, but those are small nits. Sounds like a great trip except for the bug. Here are hopes for a quick recovery.
My husband is a retired senior 474 captain for a major airline and he refuses to get on any flight by anyone. And not because he’s that tired of the experience – he loved the job. But he knows too much. It’s like trying to get a doctor to agree to surgery…
Hi Dennis and Diane
Thank you for your comments. Here is a repost with one of the branches removed. I also added another frame of this Hawk.
Peter
Nice work on the repost and I also like the other pose, Peter.
Yes!! And both frames are wonderful!
A nice look at a red-shouldered hawk. The angle of the bird to your lens hides most of the red shoulder areas from view. The finely banded tail is diagnostic for this hawk. Repost is more pleasing to the eye with the extra branches removed. I would brighten it up slightly as my only suggested edit. Otherwise, a fine photo indeed!
Pretty bird. Red-shouldered Hawk. Love the tail fan and detail!
HI Dennis, Diane & Jim
Thank you for your comments. One more try. I never stop learning, Jim. Thank you.
