This bird flew straight at me, out of the setting sun. There was no flash or artificial lighting involved. The dark background was provided by a cypress hedge.

Can’t say I’ve ever seen a hummingbird photo with backlit wings such as this one. Very nice image, Michael… 
Very cool image with the high amount of backlighting, Michael. Ordinarily, I’d object to the beak being blown out, but for the situation described, I think this works. Nice job.
The backlit wings really make this image, also well done on getting sharpest focus on the eyes.
