Into the Abyss

What I like about this image is the wide range of tones, and the fact that it’s difficult to decide just how big it is. What is it?
This is part of an overflow on a creek where it flows into a lake. Ice had formed on rocks in the center and along the edges of this fairly shallow spot. The ice just kept building up, and water occasionally flowed over the top, and it formed this hole with the creek still flowing underneath. Amazingly, over several weeks, the ice stayed quite clear!
The hole is about 12 inches deep and this photo probably covers an area about 3 feet wide.

Specific Feedback Requested

Is it interesting?
Also, does the processing work? I tried to not affect the smoothness of the ice and yet still get some sharpness in the image.

Genny, What is it? Without your description it is hard to make out what the scene really is. Also the size of the area is extremely deceiving from your point about it being about 3 feet wide. Seems much larger. The resulting perceptions or even some deceptions has the image easily filling an abstract look as well… :sunglasses:

Very cool. Looks like a frozen whirlpool. Nicely seen, Genny.

This is a very cool image and it makes for an interesting abstract. Have you thought about experimenting with a crop? I think that a square crop might work rather nicely here.
