The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I went into the woodland to to improve my composition skills.
Specific Feedback
I am looking for general feedback on the composition. The flow works for me as there is a repeating pattern on the tree limbs and the change in tonal contrast helps with the sense of depth. I believe the large tree trunk on the left brings the eye back into the image and helps with the balance. But, as I said in the description, I am developing my eye for composition so I am definitely looking for input.
I am in no way, an expert on composition, but I think your comp works here. I think the tree on the left is balanced out by the one on the right. There is a circular flow to the image. I like the processing. At first I was gonna suggest more contrast, but had second thoughts after adding some in PS. I don’t think it did any favors for the trees in the middle. Nice image.
I think you found a nice subject and placed the elements in the frame in a nice way. That’s really what composition is about. I also like the tones throughout the image. Very small issue, maybe bring down the slight hot spot in the center left. Though, it is where my eye wants to go naturally because of the lines in the frame. Overall a classy image.
Hi Bill,
This woodland image is busy, but it works for me as my eye can go from tree to tree pulling me deeper into the scene. I also like the B&W conversion as you have a nice range of tones. @patrick6 already mentioned it, but I too could see bringing down the highlights in that area as well. My only other suggestion would be to remove that clump of leaves in the LLC as they do catch my eye a little. This is very nicely done.
I love this! The high-key treatment is very appealing and keeps the larger trunks from being too visually heavy. I don’t mind the tonality of the bright spot but it could maybe use a bit more detail. I think this could be a great piece to be framed very large!
Thank you for the thoughtful input! It is greatly appreciated and good to know that I am headed in the right direction. I made the suggested changes and posted a revised version above.
Nicely done, Bill. I think the composition works quite well and the high-key treatment helps mask some of the complexity.
My only comment and this is truly a personal thing. The flow of the image feels like it’s going from right to left. I wonder what it might look like flipped horizontally?
The composition works very well, and I really like the high-key presentation. My only nit is there is a circular bright spot between the two larger branches about 1/3 in from the left that catches my eye.
This is a nice image that could be processed in several different ways. Not saying you need to, but just for experimentation’s sake you could have some fun with different interpretations.

@David_Bostock I did try to flip it horizontally. I prefer more serene images and since my eye naturally goes from right to left, I did not flip the revised version horizontally.
Hi Bill,
your rework on this image is spot on to my eye.
The firm trunk at the left anchores the composition aptly to my eye, while I enjoy exploring the whole frame. The interplay of the structure given by trunks and branches with the delicate pattern of the foliage is very appealing for me. And there is a sense of mystery and maybe something unknown in the distance that keeps my attention for quite a while.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you @Peter_Richter. I attempt to create images that resonate with viewers and cause them to linger. It is nice to know I may have affected you that way.
