This morning I was crawling in the bushes looking for bugs. I turned around and found this Great Blue Heron, checking me out.

Shifting it to Avian gallery, as it belong there.

Interesting head on image of what seems to be a “grab” shot based on your description. I like seeing the long neck raised like this. The crop seems awkward as I’d like to see room for the legs on bottom. Sharpness is a bit off too. Still, a nice shot for grabbing a chance moment in the field.

I love that stare, Russell. Heron’s are tough to frame when they’re erect like this as they’re so tall. No matter what you do it tends to look awkward. Usually, some type of portrait seems to be the best compromise for me. Perhaps something like this?
