Description
I’m a bug guy, but I’ve developed a friendship with this great blue heron at my favorite dragonfly pond. This morning, without changing the camera settings I use for dragonflies in flight. I captured my friend’s portrait.

A nice portrait! A pose where the subject is looking away does not engage the viewer as much, but for me I can imagine that he’s looking at one of your dragonflies as his next snack! But, seriously, you have very nice detail with a pleasingly soft BG. And this angle on the eye is unusual and interesting!
Actually, pretty much the same thoughts as Diane. I go straight to the eye and it does make you think the heron has spied something. Nice portrait, Russ.
Very cool portrait, Russell. While the angle of the head is unusual, I like the way it presents the eye. The detail in the plumage is awesome, which helps add to the image and you got a very nice background for this portrait. (p.s.-written without viewing previous comments, so consider it a reiteration!).
Russell
Nice detail in the plumage. I generally agree with the others with respect to the eye, which is an unusual viewpoint. But as with the others, we agree that it works.
