Description
I love the balancing turtles sometimes do when trying to get some sun. We think of them as ungainly, but they are surprisingly agile judging by the various perches I’ve found them on. Sometimes they dive back down before I can get a shot, but this one only eyed me suspiciously and didn’t move. Probably too much bother. I love those dangling feet! Very chill reptile.
Specific Feedback
The logs are what they are and I did remove a bit of one…still too overwhelming?
Technical Details
Handheld in the kayak…probably a CPL to reduce some reflection on the shell
Lr for the crop and some fine tuning of that dynamic range using some masking and global adjustments. Denoise applied and sharpness added. Ps to remove a chunk of log that was really intrusive.

Hi Kris, love the colorful patterns on this guy and the dangling feet are great! I always find turtle eyes very interesting as well. I’m wondering about a vertical composition eliminating the partial log on the right to help de-center the turtle. I could also see darkening the log in the lower left background. A very fine and fun image either way.
Great catch of this balancing act! The dangling feet are cool, and a nice pose, vibrant colours, and head-turn.
I agree with trying a vertical crop to eliminate the logs on either side
Great pose; stretching to take in the sun. Love the colors and the background is nicely complementary. I could see cloning out the part of the log in the upper left corner, but I think the one on the right gives it some balance. Nice capture, Kris.
This a fine specimen with wonderful bright colors.
I love the “Just hangin’” title.
It certainly looks relaxed, indicating it feels safe.
I like the environment as it is, and the exposure looks spot on to me.
The amount of DOF works really well at putting the right amount of emphasis on the turtle.
The BG is just clear enough to be able to tell where it’s at, so IMHO, this is a fine mighty image as presented.
Thanks @Allen_Sparks, @JRajput, @Sandy_Richards-Brown, @Allen_Brooks & @Merv - They are very colorful and a delight anytime I see one. Quite common, but still somehow fun because you never know how long they will stay. I always feel bad when frighten them. I might mess around with a vertical, but there are lots more lily pads and debris in the water that I cropped out so it may not be effective.
