Kittitas Apple Orchard

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Use of trellises to support apple trees has become common. This photo was taken from a pull off area overlooking the Kittitas valley in Washington State.

Specific Feedback

Really like the orchard but not sure about the sage brush in the foreground and upper right corner.

Technical Details

I recently purchased a Canon R5 and this is one of the first images from it. I thought having owned Canon cameras for a lot of years would make it much easier to use the R5, but there is still quite a learning curve. R5; 100/400 with converter; 1/1600th; 6.3; 250 ISO.

This is wild, Jim. It took me quite a while to find the trees amongst all the supports. I tend to agree that the sagebrush areas conflict graphically with the orchard. You might be able to do something about it by rotating the image until the orchard borders are as close as possible to horizontal and then cropping. Still a very interesting image as posted.

Dennis, Thanks. I’ll try that or I may even return and attempt to do that with a new shot.

Yeah, I was going, “Trees???” Then I saw them, but before that I saw the wonderful patterns. I would be going nuts there trying to find the best composition, but here’s what appeals to me (with gratitude to the Distort filter). Just a quickie to show the idea.

And congratulations on the new camera!! I absolutely love mine and am probably about to wear it out. Shout out if any questions you can’t resolve easily.

That’s what I was looking for. Thanks. Just when I thought I had finally understood the 5DIV I decided to get the R5. I just may have a few questions. Thank you.
