Image Description
I know it’s dark, but that was the light, and I like it.
Hi James,
My initial reaction is that I quite like this. The darker processing adds an air of mystery to the landscape and the roadway only reinforces that as it draws me into the scene to see what is just over the hill. I also think the warm light in the clouds contrasts rather nicely with the cooler tones in the rest of the image. My only suggestion would be to clone out that tree about 1/3rd of the way in from the right edge about the middle of the frame. As it is right now it just looks like a dust spot. Very nicely done!
This photo has a wonderful mood to it, not that it makes me happy, but brings on a melancholy of sorts, which I think is still good, as it illicits an emotion. It also gives me the feeling of loneliness or desolation. With regards to that lone tree that @Ed_Lowe suggests to clone out, I would keep it as it adds to the loneliness. The moody sky and the hazy horizon line also work so well in this. Nice work.
I love how the outcrop in the foreground is almost mirrored by the round silhouetted peak in the background. I also love how the road dips mysteriously down into the valley. And the glowing clouds in the sky suggest an end to the gloom. I just think this deserves a better title, as the mood is exquisite. Something biblical perhaps. “Out of the valley of the shadow of death” may be too much!
This is a wonderful photo, very moody. I don’t find it threatening, just dark and lonely, like nature can be at times. Technically, the composition is fabulous. My only nit is that to my eye the tops of the mountains, especially one third of the way in from the left and on the right, seem unnaturally dark compared to what is below them. Was this area lightened in post? Anyway, small nit in a great photo.
The low light is creates an interesting aura. IMHO there’s too much blur here. The road and entire mid ground and background is blurred, leaving me a bit dizzy. I fully respect your artistic intent.
Nice image. I really like the composition and the atmospherics. The road is a nice leading line into the distance. I don’t see the road and mid ground blur that Larry is talking about. There is a kinda soft Orton like glow to the mountains and sky.
