Lighting the F-bomb

Image

Image Description

The FUN bomb, that is!

My daughter gave me this desk top paper weight many years ago and I had always envisioned doing something like this with it. After contemplating it forever, I finally got around to executing my plan.

I knew the exposure would be tricky. I didn’t want the flame to be over exposed, and I wanted the “f” to be well lit but the rest to be dark yet recognizable. I placed it on a piece of yoga mat and illuminated the “f” with an LED camping lantern. Taken in a sunroom with plenty of natural (overcast) light in M exposure mode set for the desired effect.

The flame and smoke are real (not AI generated) which also produced the warm reflection on top of the “bomb.” I used a match head propped on top of the steel cable fuse and took the shot as soon as the match head lit using a BBQ lighter. The only AI used was to remove a very small spot where the match head was visible.

Setting this up and taking the shot sure lit my F-bomb!

Very creative, Jim. An interesting paperweight as well. You handled the setup and lighting beautifully.

Thank-you Dennis!
