Long-eared Owl

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I’ve always been fond of this one, which I suppose I can now consider an “oldy” (taken over a decade ago). It was my first Long-eared Owl encounter, and I returned to this spot late in the afternoon hoping the bird would finally get active. It did, and while it didn’t choose the most natural perch, I couldn’t argue with the glowing grass that offered up a nice background pattern.

Yes, Max, the glowing grasses make a great background and really let the owl stand out. You’ve also got good details in the owl (and the fence post,)

Beautiful image! The luminous OOF grasses are stunning, and the side view of the owl is perfect here.

Excellent EP - congrats!

The detailed browns of the owl, the interesting but not overpowering background, plenty of space for our star to gaze into - what’s not to like about this?

Max, This is a fantastic image. The owl looking to the left over the open field is great. I am jealous. I can never get an owl to sit still long enough to capture an image.
