Description

Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Boca Raton, Florida
We were on the boardwalk taking images of an egret, when people passed by coming from the other way, and said “There is a nice iguana just around the bend” I sent Jim to take a look so I didn’t have to dismantle the tripod, etc.
He came back a minute later with wide eyes and said “You’d better come”.
This thing is about 5 feet long.

A primordial beast - not a great beauty, perhaps, to human eyes - but that orange really sets it off, and you caught its stare so well. I bet it wasn’t scared at all, while you both had very wide eyes! Another excellent wildlife capture, Sandy.

Really nice subject, and pose. If this were mine, I don’t think I’d change a thing. I WOULD consider hanging it on my wall, though.

Orange generally means breeding colors in male iguanas. This is a boy on the prowl.

Kris, you’re correct. They also develop heavy jowls and dewlap.
All to attract the ladies!
