About This Image

Another image from my Pyrenees trip. Here, a bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) took off with a bone but then lost it while in flight…

Does the image illustrate what was happening?

The image does illustrate what is happening. This species is known to drop bones to shatter them so that the marrow is mor attainable. Image quality looks very good, and I like how you were able to keep the carcass remnants in the frame. You may want to lighten the shadows to pull more details out for the viewer. A very interesting bird and am glad that you were able to get this nice photo while on your trip…Jim

You caught a very interesting moment, Antonello, and the image quality looks quite good. Getting the bone still in the frame is a real bonus and does tell the story, particularly combined with the open talons which helps imply that it was deliberate. I agree with @Jim_Zablotny that it might be a good idea to play with opening up the shadows a bit. The dark underside of birds can be tricky to do without it looking overdone, but I think it would give the image a bit more punch in this case.

The original poster added a revised version of their image.

Thanks @Jim_Zablotny and @Dennis_Plank for your comments, also on the deliberate action of the vulture. I opened up the shadows a bit in the revised version, more than this could seem a bit artificial…

The revision looks just perfect to my eye, Antonello.
