Male Orca

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I took this photo in the summer of 2021 while in Alaska. This big male had stayed at a distance from our boat for a day and a half and was always too far away for a good photo. While on the stern of the boat, the orca surfaced very close the boat. I took this photo at the widest focal length of 100mm as the orca swam straight away.

Specific Feedback

What’s your reaction to a going away photo and the absence of all of the dorsal fin?

Technical Details

R5 and 100-500 mm lens at 1/2000, f/7.1 and Auto ISO at 500. Uncropped.

Hello Richard !

It must have been a thrilling experience!
But it was too close and I believe too fast too, to be able to frame it well.
