Mammatus in orange sky

We all know how quickly some skies change. How often have I said “One more cup…” only to find a brilliant sunrise turned to a blue sky day. These mammatus storm clouds in the sunset were the opposite: they just kept getting more and more intense for about fifteen minutes AND they were right out the front door! By the end the whole neighborhood was standing in the street, mouths agape with wonder. By the way, it also never did rain on us!

Awesome shot and terrific story, John.

Mammatus in the afternoon/evening are always followed by major storms. This is a good view of these mammatus, with the orange color being quite unusual.
