About This Image
The primary ruins located directly in Gallon Jug, Belize, are the Chan Chich Ruins, an ancient Maya city. To protect the site from looting, the luxury eco-resort Chan Chich Lodge was built directly onto the great plaza. Guests can explore the Main and Upper Plazas, ball courts, and looters’ trenches, one of which provides the only clue that something of interest lies here.
Beyond the immediate footprint of the Chan Chich Lodge, there are over a dozen medium-sized archaeological sites scattered throughout the 30,000-acre Gallon Jug Estate and the surrounding Three Rivers region.
Feedback Requested
It is difficult to portray the scale of this pyramid, but even more difficult to give the viewer the same sense of dread and foreboding that emanates.
