About This Image

Chrissy and I had planned a trip to New England in the fall of 2011 for a medical conference and a tour of the northeast. However a late season Atlantic coast hurricane messed up a number of the places we had hoped to visit. Since we can see hurricane damage right here at home we cancelled and consoled ourselves with a trip to the Tetons and Yellowstone. turned out to be a good choice.

One morning on our way to the geyser basin from our campsite at Madison we came upon this scene along the Firehole river. The combination of low sidelight on the tree and the FG grasses and the steam from the geyser basin made this one of my favorite images from the trip. >=))>

Feedback Requested

Had to do HDR processing and also cooled the original capture which IMO was much too warm. I like how the river and sky are rendered in this frame as well as the FG grass. Any thoughts?

Bill,

This is really nice. I think I recall this spot although I didn’t come away with what you have here. The foreground grass adds a lot to this image, as does the mist/steam along the river. The only thing I see, and it isn’t a big deal because it’s beautiful..is that the blue looks REALLY blue to me. Perhaps a bit more than normal? I’m not sure, I know the skies can be brilliant there. Regardless I can see why this is one of your favorites from the trip, it really captures the spirit of Yellowstone.

Looks as though the trip to Yellowstone was a nice consolation prize instead of the planned one to the northeast. :grinning_face: I am enjoying what you put together in this scene along the river. The diagonal lines work really well as does the rising mists; making this perfect for the weekly challenge. I am also enjoying the combination of alternating warm and cool tones in the image. Beautifully done.

That’s an enchanting view Bill. I really like what the steam adds.

Before reading this, I wondered if the image wouldn’t look a bit better if warmed a little. Maybe reduce that just a little less?

Bill, this is a fine look at the backlit fall grasses along the Firehole. The colors look right to me. The mass of rising mist behind the almost lone tree adds well to the “story”.
