@John_Williams I see what you did, that’s much better with the lower bright spots on the right.

I like the more subdued bright spots on the right and the burn of the brighter leaves at the top. I had also thought about a crop from the right but not so far as to cclip the reddish branch. And now I’m thinking of darkening the triangle of water on the left edge., and adding a bit of canvas there so the trunk isn’t touching the frame.
But you have made some subtle but very nice improvements and I think the paint is about ready to dry on this lovely scene!

This is so striking Debbie with the trunks of the trees and lichen glowing by the soft lighting. I’ve always wanted to do this trip too, especially in the Fall in a kayak. Unfortunately I’m not visiting the States until 2028. Can hardly wait.

It is amazing to do in a kayak. If you go to my profile and images and scroll down, you’ll see some of the work I did during a week down that way. We paddled out in the dark for sunrise and back in the dark after sunset. It was great. I can share the outfitter if you need.

If you want to go, I’m up for another trip for sure. In the fall, when the Bald cypresses turn orange, the gators are in torpor or possibly brumation for the winter, so not an issue. I have encountered them in early spring, but still not something to really worry about, just to be aware that you’re in their habitat not the other way around. No evidence of snakes in the fall either so I was a bit bummed, but the scenery and serenity of where Josh takes us on the water more than makes up for it.

Debbie: Magical image indeed from a magical place. To my shame in spite of living in Houston for over 40 years I’ve not been to Caddo Lake. You’re making me feel even more guilty. Touring around in a kayak would be fantastic and if you and Kris really consider doing it I might volunteer to be your sherpa. All of the above kudos are well deserved. Most excellent. >=))>

Love the rework. Those bright spots are beautifully tamed. I’ve been twice and have not encountered much in the way of fog. Only briefly for one morning that lasted about 10 minutes and was gone. So I envy you and your fog. It softens the whole scene. You have gorgeous warm light hitting the cascading lichen and Fall colored leaves while the foggy water remains nice and cool. The fog also keeps the business to a minimum.
Kayaking here is the way to go. You are low to water and it feels like you have the whole place to yourself because you can get into areas boats can’t get to. It’s also very easy to get lost.
