Morning saguaros

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I’m still getting the hang of multiple exposures. Saguaros seemed like a promising subject.

Technical Details

As far as I can tell, EXIF data doesn’t tell you an image is a multiple exposure. It also doesn’t tell you the settings of the different shots in a multiple exposure. At least one of them was ISO 100, 300mm, f/16, 1/6th sec. There was a lot of color variation in the original because I used different white-balance settings for the different shots. I made some additional changes to the colors in processing.

what a beautiful piece of art, @Don_Peters! I very much like the abstract feel of this image as well as the color play. I instantly wish my camera would allow for in camera ME - but unfortunately I shoot Sony and have to go through photoshop… it’s just not the same… anyways I might be mistaken, but could there be a sensor just spot in the upper middle white finger (right side) and on the left blue finger (same position)? a lovely image, I especially like the pink outline at the top of the overlapping blue finger. I might even try to accentuate that a bit more to create a bit more separation. great shot!

Ronja, thanks very much for the comment. I have a low success rate with these but they’re fun to take and they make me turn off the autopilot.

I looked for sensor spots and couldn’t find any, Maybe I’m just missing them. It’s also possible that you’re seeing some irregularity in the cactus.

Very creative, especially your use of WB to get those colors. I wonder how the BG turned out pink. Do you remember the original BG color? With that fine composition, I’d put this on my wall.

Thanks, Mike. The background was a very light blue in the Raw image. I didn’t come up with the idea of using different white balances on the different shots in a multiple exposure. People such as Valda Bailey and Doug Chinnery do it routinely. The color differences can be translated into tonal differences.
