About This Image

I’ve been playing off and on with multiple exposures coupled with a bit of ICM. These are 9-shot bursts combined in-camera .

Feedback Requested

I enjoy the effect while my wife says they makes her feel slightly seasick. I’ve entered a few in various competitions with very mixed results. I will keep playing with them because I enjoy the surprise when something pops out of my camera - but I’m curious about the general reaction to them. Is this my own personal rabbit hole or is there wider appeal?

Very interesting results, Doug, and rather varied. The first image is quite nice and gives looks like an impressionistic painting with relatively large splashes of color. The second one gives me the impression of a double exposure with registration slightly off and does tend to give me some of your wife’s reaction. The third is pure eye candy with all those splashes of bright color and I like the result. The fourth is interesting as it doesn’t fit into a neat category, but I do tend to like the effect and the palette and arrangement of elements is pleasing.

P.S. My wife doesn’t get into the abstract stuff much either, but that’s OK as it’s just for fun.

Hi Doug

Lovely impressionist visions - the first is my favourite but that says more about me and my favouite impressionist artists than the wok as presented

A fantastic worthwhile set

really like them

thank you

These are cool! I like the colors and textures in all of them and the painterly feeling in the first one.

@Dennis_Plank @Huw_Thomas @Cathy_Proenza thank you all for your feedback and encouragement. I’m going to keep on playing away with this technique and see what becomes of it. Thanks again.

Doug, One thing about abstracts is that they appeal to each viewer individually and often they appeal on to a few viewers. I particularly like #3 and #4 as they feel more abstract to me. #1 shows the multiple exposures the most strongly of the four, so I get more of your wife’s reaction although the colors are very nice. I do wonder about cropping off the sideways streaking bright blue tones near the bottom. In #2, I like the sense of dancing in both the top half and the bottom half, but don’t think the two halves work together well. Either half would make a fine abstract.

Hi Doug,

These are fun! I especially like #s 2 and 4, as they have an interesting depth that can be difficult to achieve in an abstraction. It would be interesting to play with Mark’s idea for #2, just to see what it looks like. But I would also like how we get a sense of depth from the two halves together.

Nicely done!

Doug-I really like these images, as they mimic artsy paintings in watercolor. I’ve tried this technique a couple of times myself, and these photos of yours are inspiring me to try it some more.
