Native Grass - Rough Dog's Tail

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This was a handheld single shot image that I took in the morning hours at Cox Arboretum in Dayton, Ohio, earlier this month. I was attracted to the colors and textures of the new forming stalk and tassel (or flower). For this image, I was trying to balance both the texture and softness of the grass and really just show how remarkable this grass is when viewed close up.

Technical Details

I use a Canon EOS R with a Canon RF 100mm macro lens
f3.5
1/320 sec [I have to shoot at this speed because my hands tend to shake  ]
ISO 320 [higher than I’d prefer due to low light conditions]

Ann, the mix of fur and red/green color looks good. It’s an interesting seed head that you’ve isolated well from it’s surroundings. I also like the sharp leaf stalk.

I like the red and green complementary colors. You’ve brought out the texture and structure of the seed head nicely. The brightest area and the placement is compositionally nice. The bent stem creates a dynamic line. Very nicely done.

Thanks so much, Chris. I appreciate your feedback!
