Description
A very windy, but sunny, morning on the Yakima River in the Yakima River Canyon. Tumble weeds were blowing everywhere, and some found their way into the river. The blue comes from sky and the gold from the surrounding hills that have yet to turn green this spring.
Specific Feedback
Almost center location and brightness of the tumble weed. The water flows from right to left, but the wind makes it appear to be left to right, at least it appears that way to me. Not sure if it does to others.
Jim, this is a good looking semi-abstract. The tumbleweed stands out. Have you tried local desaturation on the shaded water along the bottom? In my mind, getting more uniform color in the water throughout the frame would add to the sense of abstraction. Yes, the ripples do look like they’re coming in from the upper left.
I’d hate to lose too much of the cool water, Jim, but I do think you’d get more sense of flow with the tumbleweed in either the upper left or lower right quadrant. The lower right would save more of the water and I don’t get a strong sense of direction from the waves. I’d probably bring the luminosity on the tumbleweed down just a bit tomake it blend a bit more with the water.
I think I would crop a little off the top and the right to get the tumbleweed in the upper third and right third. The colors in the water are terrific and including the shadow of the hill enhances the composition. Wonderful image Jim! I even think doing a vertical composition of just the left third of the image without the tumbleweed would make a great abstract image.
