Not for Thanksgiving.

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is an Ocellated Turkey (Meleagris ocellata), a strikingly beautiful species of turkey found in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. Unlike the more common Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo), the Ocellated Turkey is distinguished by its iridescent plumage with shades of blue, green, and bronze.
Taken in northern Belize, near the Mexico border.

Specific Feedback

I think I should have gone lower. Advanced age is getting in the way of good composition.Site Plan

Beautiful colors and detail. Looks like a cross between a peacock and turkey; would like to see the tail flared. Thanks for sharing this exotic species.

Allen, yes, apparently the flared tail is quite special, and tail feathers have distinct and very pretty “eyes”. Hence the “ocellated”. However, I did not have the privilege of observing that.

Wild looking bird, Pieter. Excellent detail in the plumage that really shows it off nicely.

Thank you, Dennis!

Oh yes. I straight away thought peacock…then turkey. Such a beautiful bird. You have captured the colours of the bird very well.

A lower view point may have worked better here, but I know what you are saying. Easy enough for me to get down…it’s the getting up that makes an audience laugh.

I might consider another version with desaturated greens and possibly lowering the contrast of the BG. A tad more canvas on the bottom and right hand side might like OK too.
