The overcast light is perfect for these trees.

Wonderful light and atmosphere. I like the composition as well with the trio of more or less evenly spaced trees. One minor observation. There appears to be a tree trunk just to the right of the right-most tree that has light colored bark. You might consider burning it a bit to reduce the contrast in comparison to the subject tree.

Thank you for your input and suggestions.

Welcome Steven!

I appreciate that you are starting with an image of a PNW forest. That’s a challenging task IMHO, because it’s hard to bring organization to the chaos. So many times I’ve been in the beauty of a forest hike thinking “I should photograph this,” only to find that the magic disappears when I shrink the 3D beauty to 2D.

Your image does very well though. The three trunks make a fine focus, and as a background that chaos works fine here. I too think the overcast lighting worked well here.

Thank you for your comments John.

Great photo. And I agree with John…getting a good composition is very difficult in forests, due to all the chaos. Good job! I have a contrarian view about the light colored tree on the right edge. I would leave it light. Darkening would make it more noticeable to my eye.

Thank you for your input Tony.

You definitely accomplished your goal, the beuty of this is the light and the vertical comp which gives that that huge “over our head” feel. Nice work!

Thank you Paul
