Outer Limits

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I have always known this as Roy’s Tree in Wanaka, New Zealand. I first visited it in 1977, pre Instagram and all the other social media. This is not the usual composition as it does not convey the beauty of the tree and landscape behind it. I found it interesting though, given the birds that make me think of the Hitchcock movie “Birds”.

Specific Feedback

Nothing specific as it was processed some years ago.

Technical Details

Nikon D700, 70-200@70mm, F11, ISO 400, 30 seconds, tripod. Nothing significant in post.

I like the tranquility: the birds, the people in the town across the lake, and we the viewers, are all settling in for the evening. The color of the lights and the way they’re spread by the reflection echoes the last few moments of sunset on a cloudy evening. I’m reminded of playing in the forest around my home as a child, of evenings where we’d be out until dusk, just barely able to see our way through the bushes as we headed home.

A great image!
