Description
Roseate Spoonbills have returned to the southeast Georgia coast for the summer. I loved how this bird was posing for me.

Am looking for general thoughts, reactions - especially to the dark background. I’m really drawn to the dark moodiness of the photo.

Very nice, Christine. I really like the lighting and mood of this one. You might look at bringing down the relatively brightly lit shoulder a trifle as it feels a touch out of place to me and I’m a bit ambivalent about the faint clump of sticks in the lower right-not sure if it should go or stay.
Wonderful opportunity with a lovely pose and environment. The sticks don’t bother me and I like the dark BG. The shadows on the bird feel too dark, and the highlights too bright – maybe one to double-process and stack and mask? Maybe more saturation in the pinks?
This is such an artful image. I love it. The dark shadowy background sets the bird off beautifully and the bird has given you a gorgeous, sneaky over the shoulder glanc e.
The sticks at the bottom don’t worry me and I rather like them, although I would be tempted to see if there was another version with the sticks in the RH corner lightened just a smidge to find a little detail.
I think Diane has good points about the shadows and highlights. The image is certainly worth the effort.
