Poults on the Run

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was in place, overlooking a gray fox den waiting for some possible captures when a group of turkeys happened by. It was right at the last moments of sunset and I got lucky shooting these youngsters running to catch up with mama with lit up tree foilage in the background. Never did see any foxes but that’s okay…

Specific Feedback

Cropping? Did I leave enough space at the bottom?

I like the composition as is, Dave. There’s a sense the one on the right is coming right at you. Like the light in the background.

Neat to get them coming right at you with that light behind them, Dave. It’s always hard to be sure on a hillside, but the poults’ body angles make me think this could use a touch of counter clockwise rotation. It just feels like everything is a touch off balance.

This is a great shot Dave! I just love the way they’re sizing you up.

I feel the image would be stronger if the ground was levelled up and perhaps add a little more canvas on the right, Whilst I like seeing the bird in the background, it took me a while to find his head. I wonder if you would could consider a frankenstein approach to him? I also wonder if there is another version with less saturation in the background?

I can’t really comment on the colour of the birds, but feel there could be a bit of blue happening in their feathers and on the leaf litter?
