Description

This is a rather showy bird. The colors, the plumage, the avocado in the mouth, several hundred photographers, etc. I thought the bird wouldn’t come any closer but i was wrong. It came so close I had to stitch two images together to get the whole bird, not the case with this image which is close to full frame.

Hi David. Great catch. I never had the luck to have one get anywhere close to too close and the fruit id a very nice bonus. I’d be interested in seeing a version without the topaz photo step as in the largest image this looks rather oversharpened. I almost never do a true sharpening step anymore-just a microcontrast boost on the subject. I use the Topaz Studio 2 plugin for that. I’m not sure you can still get it new, but if you ever had it, they have your key on their website and you can download it again.

REPOST

Dennis

Here’s a repost of the image before any of the topaz stuff and after camera raw six.
Yeah, you’re right, topaz overdoes the sharpness and it’s better to not use it except an extreme cases.

I really like that repost, David. It looks just about right to me.Congratulations on catching this one.

HI David, great catch of a fantastic, beautiful bird. I’ll add my congratulations to Dennis’. Repost looks much better. Great you got the full bird in with no cutoff of the tail . A fine image.

Hi David,
I like the fine details of the bird in the repost and a bit dark BG where the bird is more on focus. I have heard this bird is one of the beautiful one in the world and indeed its true.

Another vote for the repost, David. A beautiful bird showing a nice pose and excellent detail.

The original poster added a revised version of their image.

Hi David
Congrats on the editors-pick of the week.
