The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We’ve had some extremely windy days here on the coast, and the whitecaps were huge. Still, a bright, sunny day. Just engrossing to watch.
This started as a fairly run-of-the-mill image of closeup whitecaps and evolved into this. (Some non-believers will say DE-volved, LOL!)

Sandy, this just beautiful! And hands down one of the most interesting photographs I have seen in a while. The range from light to dark, the composition in which even the more or less empty area in the top left and center make sense, the dynamic of the flowing shapes, the detail of all those lines, the colors, never oversaturated but still powerful - it all works. I would like to see this printed on a matte paper and nicely framed. Thanks for sharing.

Sandy, the first thing I’ll mention is that your image held my attention and produced a curiosity within me. It has an impressionistic feel to it. I do feel that the green/gold/grey colors are harmonious. I like the diagonal aspect to the primary “wave” in the center. The composition really has a depth and dimension to it!
Subjective considerations I would offer: the mid/upper left corner is less contrasty/saturated than the right lower corner and creates a bit of disharmony from the remaining 2/3rds of the image (this may be a natural result of the light direction and position). There are many methods to achieve this, but I would leave that up to your tastes and familiarity with your editing software. In my abstracts, I like to rotate my images in monochrome and do the “one eye” trick to see any imbalances in luminosity and/or contrast.
As far as others’ views on the evolution/devolution of an image based on their rigid definitions of what photography is/isn’t, I’d say to free your creative self from that old trap. If your intent was to make the image as you have here, then this is a resounding success! If it’s a happy accident either in total or partially, then that’s ok too but I’d suggest you then study what worked in-camera as well as in post so as to develop this voice further!
Anyway, great work and I look forward to seeing more of your creations!

No Words !!! One of the most interesting images I have seen in years. Abstract and just beautifully different. Your exposure time blew me away… Great image. !!!

One word…Stunning!

@Bob_Rainville makes some interesting points, but ultimately, it’s your choice, Sandy.

This is a beautiful and evocative image.

I find this image just gorgeous. I could sit and look at it, just as I would the water itself. The sense of movement and the color…wow. I had to admit, I came into “nature abstract” to see what kind of photos were here, and I am loving this! Great work!

A beautiful image, Sandy, though I think to took it from Raging to Meditative in the processing. Not a bad thing by far, but it just doesn’t come across as raging to me. Instead I find myself almost mesmerized following all the curves and swirls in this image.

@Bob_Rainville
Bob, I’ve been staring at that lighter corner in the upper left since you mentioned it. I think you’re right that it’s a little disharmonious. I’ve darkened it up a bit to better match the rest and re-posted. Thanks!

This is fantastic, Sandy. I could stare at this for hours. It would look great printed big on metal.

I like the adjustment to that upper left corner. I don’t know that it would have occurred to me, but now that its tone is closer to the middle right edge, I think the balance and mood are more consistent.

Whoa!!! What a cool image Sandy. I love the textures you captured in this. Truly a nice piece of artwork to hang on your wall.

This is amazing - I had no idea what I was looking at, but this is so artistic and beautiful. A definite wall-hanger.

I saw it as tresses of hair. I would find it extremely difficult to create something stunning like this, but we live in hope. For what it’s worth, which fun filters did you use? Lovely abstract, Sandy.

When I say “I dropped it into my bag of filters” , I’m serious. I try one, then another, and another - then add this one - or this one … there is no pattern.
Kind of like the opthamologist testing your eyes…better? worse (- flip lenses/filters) better? worse? (flip) better? worse?
I use Fractalius, Topaz glow, Nik 8, PS and other blurs primarily, and watercolour and oil painting filters often. I really almost feel as if I am painting again - instead of reaching for a brush or new colour, I now reach for a filter. Odd… but I’m thankful

Sandy: Have you been in my office lately . I’m super late to this but what a marvelous creation you have here. Superbly conceived and executed. Congrats on a well deserved EP. :+1: :+1:>=))>

@Sandy_Richards-Brown This is just stunning! I studied this for some time after reading your description and still can’t make out how on earth this is white caps on the ocean. I can’t even tell its a photograph. Looks like an abstract oil painting. Just amazing :clap::clap:
