Reflection

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I took this one this morning while hiking by a stream. The bottom of the stream is visible in a few places.

I took it in portrait orientation but I knew I’d want to rotate it 90 degrees clockwise.

Specific Feedback

I’m fairly content with this one but others may see problems that I’ve missed.

Technical Details

ISO 2000, 40 mm, f/8, 1/200th sec., tripod, polarizer.

I think the rotation was an excellent idea – the larger tree just looks right with its weight coming from the bottom of the frame, supported by the darker foliage. You caught just enough water movement to give the leaves a lovely abstraction. The darker area in the UL balances the darker base and the illuminated gold leaves make a very pleasing diagonal, balanced by the light on the bare branches on the left. I love the subtle but wonderful layering here – excellent capture!

Thanks, Diane.

I like the way it transitions from almost pictorial to very abstract, Don. I do wonder what it would look like flipped horizontally, but that may be the engineer in me trying to make order out of chaos instead of vice-versa.
