The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
An image from scouting a local woodland I’m interested in feedback on.
I was drawn to this by the lone young Rowan tree at the base of these much larger, and older, pines.
Specific Feedback
I’m unsure about this image generally but specifically the foreground, it was tricky to deal with, the greens were too luminous and it just looked messy. I’ve tried a few things and think it’s ‘ok’ now but would value others opinions.

Hi Dom - Your image kept catching my eye as I scrolled through the posts. You framed up the little tree well. It does contrast well with the older pines, but since the subject appears to be the little tree, I think the older pines could be darkened a bit to make them less prominent. I could see darkening the pines and the entire background to give this a bit more drama and highlight the rowan tree.
Your foreground looks fine to me. There’s a lot of busyness, but at this scale it turns to a block of texture and the detail isn’t a bother.
Here’s what I was thinking about darkening it. I cooled and darkened the background and big trees. Maybe I took it too far, but you get my idea. Hope you don’t mind.
Hi @Bonnie_Lampley - thanks for your feedback and thanks for taking the time to tweak the image. I like what you’ve done, I’ve been working with the image a little bit more since I posted it and had darkened the background a little too - but I like the way you’ve done it and the added blue helps as well I think so I’ll do that as well.
Dom,
I love these kind of intimate woodland scenes. For my tastes the rework by @Bonnie_Lampley nailed it as it places so much more emphasis on the young tree making it the star; as it should be; of the image. Beautifully done!
