Shadows on snow

The low winter sun has fun making shadows on the hillside behind our home. I leave the stalks of the summer flower garden, both for insects and birds, and for their fascinating changes throughout the winter.

I could have sworn I replied to this since shadows on snow are some of my favorite things to shoot. Especially since winter is like 8 months long here, lol.

Interesting that you decided to go for subtle here. So many times I crank up the drama, but this is so pleasing and almost gentle, considering the season. I leave most of my garden flowers over winter as well - if they make seeds, the birds appreciate it.

Thanks, Chris. Yes, we too are enjoying out three months of summer (92F today!!!). The winter sun and the shadows are so wonderfully variable—this photograph on a steep north facing hillside so even more variable, ranging from soft to very hard. Glad you enjoyed.
