Shenandoah Light Show

Image(s)

Image Description

This was one of the better light shows that I had the privilege to witness. I was looking through the files and had to go all the way back to 2009 for an image with crepuscular rays in it. I was in Shenandoah NP; I forget the exact location; with almost no hopes of a sunset due to the heavy cloudcover. I stuck around and was rewarded with this amazing show of light. I was surprised the the color version was kind of blah so I converted to B&W and like the results much better.

Feedback Requests

I would love to have a chance to do this over and underexposure that one break in the clouds in the center of the frame a little more. Does it’s brightness bother you? Anything else you notice please feel free to mention it.

Ed, this is great set of crepuscular rays with your b&w treatment fitting the scene very well. While the one saturated white spot doesn’t bother me, you could work on it using a 10% (or lighter) clone. I would like just a touch more detail in the first two ridges and the darkest clouds up top. The many layers of land, from near to far are wonderful.

Ed, I think the B&W works really well for this stunning image. The mountains and other features in the background (water? just more sky and clouds?) add interest and depth.
