Sierran Tree Frog + RP

It may have been just because it was in the normal resting period for these frogs. I say that because it reminds me of the Spring Peeper I found in a Dahlia flower earlier this year. It didn’t move all afternoon and wasn’t camouflaged at all, although this one may have felt safer because of it. Either way I love this little one - reminds me of a Wood Frog combined with a Peeper. These little woodland frogs must be so similar across the various species as they probably fill a similar ecological niche. Such delicate hues and minuscule textures. A precious and splendid little amphibian.

Thanks, @Kris_Smith! Our CA tree frogs are deliriously happy when the winter rains start (November thru March or April) but our hot dry weather in summer drives them to hiding in moist locations – like under the drip irrigation line where I flushed this guy. Not surprising, as they look like they have very delicate skin.

This was shot the 7th, and it hadn’t rained since late April, but on the 9th we had an unusual and wonderful 24 hours of very light rain (1.3") from some monsoonal moisture driven this far north. Maybe this guy knew the forecast (wouldn’t be surprised!) and was venturing out. It’s been cool and wonderfully cloudy since, and tomorrow I need to go hunting. But it will be hot and dry again next week.
