Spruce Grouse Chick

This little chick was just browsing in my back yard. Mom was still out in the brush somewhere and it didn’t seem to be concerned about my presence. It was a cloudy day with poor light.

Gary, I’d say that your “poor light” worked wonders in letting the feather detail in the bird stand out. I also like that little stalk of flower in front and the green surroundings. A quick check on wikipedia includes the description that these birds try to hide until they are very closely approached, which seems to fit with your observation.

Beautiful, Gary. I like being able to see the feet (or at least one foot here) even though they are not in the focal plane. I think that adds a lot to the image. I am seeing a little bit of magenta cast here, but that should be very easy to remove. You have captured this one with perfect pose.

Excellent, Gary. You must have been incredibly close to get this shot at 200 mm. Beautiful feather detail and I like the eye contact.
